Juliana Mini Pigs Raised at Gumpert Homestead

We specialize in raising Juliana Mini Pigs, widely recognized as one of the smallest pig breeds in the world. Known for their compact size, intelligence, and distinctive spotted patterns, Juliana pigs are a unique and rewarding livestock choice for the right homestead environment.

Our Juliana mini pigs are raised with hands-on care, proper nutrition, and a strong focus on long-term health and temperament. We prioritize responsible ownership and education, ensuring every pig is placed with families who understand the commitment required.

What Makes Juliana Mini Pigs Unique

Juliana mini pigs stand apart from other pig breeds due to their:

  • Naturally small stature compared to standard pigs

  • Lean body structure with long legs and a refined frame

  • Intelligent, curious personalities

  • Distinctive spotted or mottled coat patterns

Unlike commercial hog breeds, Juliana pigs mature slowly and remain compact when raised on an appropriate diet and care plan.

Size Expectations & Growth

Juliana mini pigs are often referred to as the world’s smallest pig breed, but it’s important to understand realistic expectations.

  • Mature height is typically 14–20 inches at the shoulder

  • Adult weight varies based on genetics, diet, and care

  • Proper feeding is essential to maintaining healthy size

We believe transparency is essential and are always happy to discuss growth expectations honestly.

Temperament & Intelligence

Juliana pigs are highly intelligent and social animals. When raised with consistent handling and structure, they can be:

  • Calm and interactive

  • Trainable with routine and positive reinforcement

  • Strongly bonded to their caretakers

Their intelligence also means they require mental stimulation, enrichment, and clear boundaries.

Housing & Care Requirements

Juliana mini pigs require:

  • Secure fencing to prevent rooting and escapes

  • Shelter that protects from heat, rain, and cold

  • Clean bedding and dry living areas

  • Daily interaction and enrichment

They are not low-maintenance animals and thrive best with prepared, committed owners.

Feeding & Nutrition

Proper nutrition plays a major role in the health and size of Juliana pigs.

Their diet should include:

  • Balanced pig feed formulated for mini pigs

  • Fresh vegetables and forage

  • Controlled portions to prevent obesity

  • Constant access to clean water

Overfeeding can significantly impact size and health, so education is key.

Is a Juliana Mini Pig Right for You?

Juliana mini pigs are best suited for owners who:

  • Have adequate space and secure fencing

  • Understand long-term livestock care

  • Are committed to responsible feeding

  • Want a unique, intelligent homestead animal

They are not novelty pets, but lifelong animals requiring care and commitment.

Frequently asked questions

What type of mini pigs do you raise at Gumpert Homestead?

We raise Juliana mini pigs, a smaller heritage-style mini pig known for their friendly personalities, intelligence, and unique spotted coloring. Our pigs are raised on our Alabama homestead with daily handling and attentive care.

Are Juliana pigs good pets?

Yes — when properly cared for. Juliana pigs are:

  • Highly intelligent

  • Affectionate and social

  • Curious and playful

They bond closely with their owners but require consistent training, enrichment, and boundaries.

Are mini pigs good with children?

Mini pigs can do well in families with children who respect animals. Adult supervision is important. Pigs are strong, intelligent animals and should never be treated like toys.

Do mini pigs stay small forever?

Mini pigs remain smaller than commercial farm pigs, but they continue growing for several years. Any breeder promising a pig will stay extremely tiny is being misleading. We believe in honest, transparent education.

Are Juliana pigs considered “true” mini pigs?

Juliana pigs are considered one of the smaller traditional mini pig breeds, but no pig stays “teacup-sized.” Like all pigs, size depends on genetics, diet, and care. We focus on healthy, responsibly bred pigs, not extreme downsizing. Our Males tend to finish out at about 50-65 pounds, our Females usually finish at 35-50 pounds.

Are mini pigs good with other animals?

Many of our pigs are raised around:

  • Chickens

  • Goats

  • Dogs

  • Other pigs

Proper introductions and supervision are key, especially with dogs.

What do mini pigs eat?

Mini pigs should eat:

  • High-quality mini pig feed

  • Fresh vegetables

  • Limited fruits (as treats)

They should never be fed dog food, junk food, or excessive treats. Overfeeding is the #1 cause of health issues in pet pigs.

Can mini pigs live indoors?

Mini pigs can live indoors or outdoors, depending on setup and climate. Many owners choose a combination of both. Indoor pigs require:

  • Pig-proofed spaces

  • Litter or potty training

  • Mental enrichment

Outdoor pigs need secure fencing, shelter, and protection from extreme temperatures.

Are mini pigs easy to potty train?

Mini pigs are very intelligent and can be litter-trained or trained to go outside, similar to dogs. Consistency and patience are key.

Do mini pigs smell?

When properly cared for, mini pigs are very clean animals. Most odor issues come from poor hygiene, improper housing, or diet.
